THE SEASON CONTINUES AT LUTSEN RESORT

If you ever wonder where there is still snow in the the lower-48  during mid-April look no further! Go to Minnesota.

Lutsen resort is Minnesota's oldest resort. In 1885, the rugged natural beauty of Lake Superior's North Shore prompted Charles Axel Nelson, a young Swedish immigrant, to establish his homestead overlooking the lake. He called it "Lutsen".

Lutsen is one of the northernmost ski areas in the United States outside of Alaska. It is located in the rugged Sawtooth Mountains, part of the Superior Highlands on the north shore of Lake Superior. Lutsen receives natural snow, at times lake effect snow from the lake at its foot, and also has snowmaking equipment.

Lutsen Mountains Resort is the largest ski resort in the Midwest, also having the second most vertical drop in the Midwest after Mount Bohemia. The ski season extends from November into mid-April, longer than most other resorts in the Upper Midwest.

Lutsen has four mountains, named Eagle, Ullr, Mystery, and Moose Mountains. Eagle should not be confused with Eagle Mountain, the highest point in Minnesota, which is actually in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

In Lutsen there are two trail systems within minutes of Lutsen Resort  have over 150 kilometers of groomed and tracked cross-country trails winding through a spectacular variety of terrain with Lake Superior overlooks, open maple forests, canopies of cedar wetlands with deer and wolf tracks, across sunny meadows and small ponds. The trails vary from short beginner loops and longer 6 to 10 km. intermediate loops to half-day and day-long skis with a fabulous 25 km. loop for experienced skiers.

With Lake Superior at its doorstep and the Superior National Forest right in the backyard, there are activities to suit guests of every age and interest year-round. Well-known for its skiing, golfing and hiking opportunities, the area offers unlimited possibilities for enjoying the outdoors.
